One of NVIDIA's top competitors AMD also made waves in Las Vegas. CEO Lisa Sue spoke about how her company is helping build the foundation to take AI to the next level. At AMD our mission is to push the boundaries of high performance and AI computing to help solve the world's most
06:20
important challenges. Today I'm incredibly proud to say that AMD technology touches the lives of billions of people every day from the largest cloud data centers to the world's fastest super
one of these areas is being transformed by AI. AI is the most important technology of the last 50 years and I can say it's absolutely our number one priority at AMD.
06:52
It's already touching every major industry whether you're going to talk about health care or science or manufacturing or commerce and we're just scratching the surface. AI is going to be everywhere over the next few years and most importantly AI is for everyone.
It makes us smarter. It makes us more capable. It enables each one of us to be a more productive version of ourselves and at AMD we're building the compute foundation to make that future real for every company and for every person. Now since the launch of chat TPT a few years ago
I'm sure we all remember the first time we tried it. We've gone from a million people using AI to now more than a billion active users. This is just an incredible ramp. It took the internet decades to reach that same milestone. Now what we are projecting is even more amazing. We see
the adoption of AI growing to over five billion active users as AI truly becomes indispensable to every part of our lives just like the cell phone and the internet of today.
08:05
Now the foundation of AI is compute. With all of that user growth we have seen a huge surge in demand in the global compute infrastructure growing from about one zetaflop in 2022 to more than a hundred zetaflops in 2025. Now that sounds big. That's actually a hundred times
in just a few years. But what you're going to hear tonight from everyone is we won't have we don't have nearly enough compute for everything that we can possibly do. We have incredible innovation happening. Models are becoming much more capable. They're thinking and reasoning.
They're making better decisions and that goes even further when we extend that to agents overall.
08:52
So to enable AI everywhere we need to increase the world's compute capacity another hundred times over the next few years to more than 10 yodaflops over the next five years. Now let me take a survey. How many of you know what a yodaflop is? Raise your hand please. A yodaflop is a one
10,000 times more compute than we had in 2022. There's just never ever been anything like this in the history of computing. And that's really because there's never been a technology like AI.
09:37
Now to enable this you need AI in every compute platform. So what we're going to talk about tonight is the whole gamut. You know we're going to talk about the cloud where it runs continuously delivering intelligence globally. We're going to talk about PCs where it helps us work smarter
and personalize every experience that we have. And we're going to talk about the edge where it powers machines that can make real time decisions in the real world. AMD is the only company that has the full range of compute engines to make this vision a reality. You really need to have
the right compute for each workload. And that means GPUs. That means CPUs. That means NPUs. That means custom accelerators. We have them all. And each of them can be tuned for the application to give you the best performance as well as the most cost effective solution.
The competition to own the future of AI is fierce. And while NVIDIA has been the darling of late, companies like AMD are nipping at its heels. Yahoo Finance spoke with experts about the tightening competitive landscape. How has the competitive landscape Paul shifted for NVIDIA
over the past let's say 12 months Paul has it hasn't meaningly shifted his Jensen feeling heat from AMD is he feeling more heat from even the hyperscalers the tech giants his own customers. Excellent question Josh. I really admire Lisa Sue and what she's done with that
marvelous turnaround at AMD. And yes, they are starting to close the gap on a technology basis.
11:11
However, the gap that they look to close is very, very wide. And so to answer your question directly, yes, they've closed the gap a bit, but it's still very wide. And the nice thing that NVIDIA has, first of all, it's focused on AI accelerators where AMD still has a good portion of its revenue
11:31
coming from some old school product with lower potential margins. And also AMD does not have the full stack, including the software that Jensen Wong demonstrated on stage and emphasized on stage today in Vegas at CES. And so over time, customers definitely want to have a second source. And so
11:55
they will always keep AMD in the mix. But I still think even though AMD has closed the gap a little, it's still a super wide gap, Josh. And I'm very encouraged that NVIDIA will continue to stay ahead.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Thanks to NVIDIA, that's right. The chip maker is making a foray into autonomous driving to compete with the likes of Tesla. CEO Jensen Wong unveiled the initiative at CES in Las Vegas. Today, we're announcing Alpamayo, the world's first
12:28
thinking, reasoning autonomous vehicle AI. Alpamayo is trained end-to-end, literally from camera in to actuation out. The camera in, lots and lots of miles that are driven by itself were human
driving, using human demonstration. And we have lots and lots of miles that are generated by Cosmos. In addition to that, hundreds of thousands of examples are labeled very, very carefully so that we could teach the car how to drive. Alpamayo does something that's really special.
Not only does it take sensor input and activates steering wheel, breaks in an acceleration, it also reasons about what action is about to take. It tells you what action is going to take,
reasons by which it came about that action, and then, of course, the trajectory.
13:28
All of these are coupled directly and trained very specifically by a large combination of human train and as well as Cosmos generated data. The result of it is just really incredible.
Not only does your car drive as you would expect it to drive, and it drives so naturally because it learned directly from human demonstrators. But in every single scenario, when it comes up to the scenario, it reasons about, it tells you what it's going to do and reasons about what's
about to do. Now, the reason why this is so important is because of the long tail of driving.
14:05
It's impossible for us to simply collect every single possible scenario for everything that could ever happen in every single country and every single circumstance that's possibly ever going to happen for all of population. However, it is very unlikely, it's very likely,
that every scenario, it decomposed into a whole bunch of other smaller scenarios, are quite normal for you to understand. And so, these long tails will be decomposed into quite normal circumstances that the car knows how to deal with. It just needs to reason about it.
Well, we got this big guy right here. What can you tell me about this? This is running Qualcomm's Dragon Wing chip. Well, here we go. He's grabbing the fruit. What is going on here?
What is the chip? What is Qualcomm powering back here? So, this is the new platform that we announced, IQ 10. If you think about the robotics problem statement, there are two things you need to solve. There is a locomotion, a motion problem statement, and then there is the brain,
the AI problem statement. The platform we've built does both. It's one chip that is able to really control the motion of the device, but then also allow the device to think. There is a tremendous amount of AI capability on the device. And so, this robot is looking. It's making a decision
17:37
based on the color of the plates, the color of the fruit, and then driving the locomotion to pick up the fruit and put it in the right colored plate. It's a simple use case. But what this does is it shows that it is using the brain of the robots and it's using the movement of the
robots and bringing the two together to make an action that then can be replicated in several other things that the robot can do. For something like this, you know, there's robots kind of galore here at CES. Thankfully, they're not going to overthrow us yet. But at what point do we start
to see these kind of hitting the real world, kind of entering mass reduction in industrial settings, things like that? Yeah, I think what we've seen so far in robotics is largely purposeful robots and purpose action robots. They do specific set of things. I think the next step is you can
build something that has a brain now takes advantage of all the AI progress that we've made over the last several years. You combine it with the motion and now you can build a special purpose robot that does special things. Like as an example, you can have something that is in an industry that's in a warehouse, that's in a manufacturing line, even in a home that does very specific
set of actions. The nirvana then is to have a general purpose humanoid that does all kinds of actions that can think and perceive and see like a human being. I think we're a little always from that, but the next big step is to build special purpose humanoids that can do a lot of
actions that we can do and their consistent high efficiency and they can do it for a very long period of time without getting tired, without needing a break, without needing a battery charge if you use a Qualcomm chip in it. Robots, chips and new TVs dominated CES this year, but the conference is also known for showcasing quirky innovations, which this year include a
smart toilet, Dan Halley, AI in the bathroom. CES always has tons of weird and fun products, and this year at CES 2026 is no different. There's literally more robots than I've ever seen in my entire life. Some of them have gotten so tired they've fallen down on their faces. Outside of robots,
19:47
we've also seen video games that you can play in your car, on your car's infotainment center when you're parked, not driving, of course. We've also seen some weirder things. There's an AI toilet. Sure, why not? There's also been some toys here. Lego is also here with its own smart
